BULSU Women’s Volleyball team craves for victory
By Lea Marie Magtira
Last year, Bulacan State University women’s volleyball team lost to Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology.
What do these girls lack? What is stopping them to have their triumph?
First let us familiarize to this players, there are 14 players in the team namely: Kristine Gonzales, Jamie Anne Evangelista, Jamilah Mama, Janilyn Alimojane, Elizbeth Belleza, Jhenel Ilanan, Katrina Duenas, Dii Umali, Cherry Pangilinan, Shiela Manalaysay, Ria Peloria, Cherize Paula de Castro, their team captain Joane Balagtas and their ace player Joana Sabete.
Their trainer Mr. Ed Evangelista had the answer to the question stated above: he said “Ang weakness kasi nila ay yung kulang sila sa experience. Kumbaga di pa sila ganun ka exposed sa mga laro. Kasi karamihan sa kanila as in baguhan pa.”
From there, we can see that the advantage of Nueva Ecija State University was experience. That made them upper hand in the last year’s game in SCUAA and the Bulacan State University the underdog.
But when Mr. Evangelista, what were the chances of their team to have the title in this upcoming SCUAA in December he said: ” Malaki ang nakikita kong chance para sa team namin para sa nalalpit na SCUAA edge naming yung height, marami sa team naming ang matatangkad and gutom ang mga player na ‘to sa panalo. Mas may experience lang talag ang Nueva Ecija sa amin kaya sila ang nanalo. Pero ngayon kasi mas karamihan na sa team ay mga third year, kumbaga nasalang na sila dati kayo may konti ng experience sa laban.”
Their trainer is full of conviction that the chance of having the championship title for their team is high. He believed that every day training, good conditioning and motivating the team to win the championship will be a great help in this approaching SCUAA.
And aside from winning, Mr. Evangelista points out that BULSU has enough funds when it comes to allotment for their athletes. He cited: “ Kahit na State University ang BULSU sapat yung pondo para sa mga athlete. At sa BULSU, even ako as a trainer priority natin ang studies in general na ipakita natin na ang athletes natin ay hindi lang naman sa laro magaling.
The girls are hoping that the drought for victory will end even the said event of SCUAA will be held in the territory of the enemies in Nueva Ecija this year. Keeping their training and as well their hopes to be the champion Women’s Volleyball team will try their best to beat their opponents and show them that they will not be the underdog anymore.
