CAL Cobras sway into Dance Sports finals
By: Fiona Marielli Paclipan and Jessa Grace Olesco
Two weeks were all that it took for the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Cobras to groove their way to Dancesport hiphop category finals on Monday, September 16.
Cobras member Ryan Laloon of BAMC 3B told that his team was happy enough to make it even only in the semis as they were surprisingly called in for the finals.
“Two weeks lang kami nag-prepare para rito. So yung mga pagod namin kahit almost three days lang kami nabuo lahat para sa para sa praktis. Kaya masaya kami na makapasok kahit sa semifinals lang,” he said.
Making their sportsmanship visible, the Cobras greeted the other teams, specifically the College of Education Flames, BulSU Sarmiento Stars, and College of Engineering Red Ants who also qualified for finals, giving them hugs and shaking their hands before they proceed to their final performance.
However, the Cobras did not manage to get into the top three, bowing to Sarmiento Stars who bagged the gold and the Flames and the Red Ants who landed second and third, respectively.
Cobras were impressed at the performance of the Stars in the BulSU Activity Center and noted the Sarmiento’s unique dance moves was the group’s edge to reign on the dance floor.
“Nasa category nila ang pagkapanalo [ay] sa Educ. Kaya lang siguro dala na rin ng kakaiba yung quality ng sayaw nila kaya nanalo ang Sarmiento kasi ginawa nilang ethnic modern yung style nila then halos magkakaparehas na kaming tatlo kaya nangibabaw ang sayaw nila,” Laloon added.
Other categories included in the competition were the Ballroom Standard and Ballroom Latin both prevailed by the CoEd.
