INTRAMURALS 2013: Change of kick-off venue confuses BULSUans
By Fiona Marielli Paclipan
Sudden change of venue of Bulacan State University (BulSU) Intramurals 2013’s kick-off program had brought confusion to several students.
The Intramurals' opening program on Monday, September 16, was transferred from the Bulacan Sports Complex in Sta. Isabel, Malolos City to Bulacan Sports and Convention Center in Bulihan, Malolos City.
Marijoy Adajar, a BS Psychology student, admitted that she has not been informed early about the sudden trasfer of the venue.
"Nasayangan ako ng 7 pesos dahil 'yun nga, namasahe pa ako uli papuntang Convention dahil dun na pala 'yung opening," she said. "Medyo hassle 'yung nangyari."
Lester Castro, meanwhile, a class president from College of Arts and Letters (CAL) said that there was never an official announcement given to him about the transfer.
"Walang nag-announce, actually," Castro said. "Tinanong ko lang si CAL Governor Kevin Bautista kung saan ang venue the night before the opening. Sabi niya, 'pag daw maulan, sa Sports and Convention Center, 'pagdaw maaraw, tuloy sa Complex. Sinabi ko 'yun sa mga kaklase ko nung gabing 'yun."
Castro also said that it might be a reason why the program started later than the time it was supposed to begin.
With the theme, "Everyone in Sports, Sports in Everyone," a parade of colors opened the celebration, headed by the BulSU ROTC and the BulSU Symphonic Band with their majorettes, followed by the long lines of atheletes along with their muses and escorts, from different teams which are composed by various colleges from BulSU Main campus, and each of the university's satellite campuses in Meneses, Bustos, Sarmiento and Hagonoy.
Mayor Enrico Roque of Pandi, Bulacan graced the occasion, giving a talk about what he had learned upon his past, and how he overcomed poverty to attain success in life.
The traditional torch-lightning was hindered by the air-conditioned venue, but was acted by Maria Jennifer Capuli of BulSU Athletics team, and was eventually followed by the displaying of team banners, headed by the colleges' deans and representatives, the muses and the escorts.
The program ended shortly afterwards, and the students went back to the main campus, where events like Dancesport competition and Mr. and Ms. BulSU Intramurals 2013 are going to be held at the same day.
