Once upon a time we were the underdogs.
Yet, as Bulacan State University prevailed on the September 2013 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination, it proved that there is more into it than just being a state university. With its graduates Ian Jay Torres Matias hitting the top-notch, Angelo Valle Santiago reaching fifth, and Aldrin Cruz Bernardo landing tenth in the previous board, the university has set a standard above all. While it is consistently present on the top ten, our school is usually taken with little credit. BulSU, excellent as it is, however, has been somewhat overshadowed by the more popular names of other prestigious universities, specifically the Big Four around Metro. Following the achievement of the three BulSU grads, the university paved more rooms for opportunities to incoming engineers. Aside from this, the passing rate of other courses continued to level up, including the electrical engineering and nursing. Names of BulSUan top qualifiers as official electrical engineers also abounded the Electrical Engineering Licensure held the previous month. Furthermore, it is quite a known fact that BulSU excelled in sports as it persistently reigns as the overall champion in SCUAA for more than ten years. |
SCUAA means State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association which is an annual event for all tertiary levels in Luzon. Thus, BulSU reigns for almost 17 years and still continuing to maintain the limelight in the fields of sports and recreation. Athletes start their practice from early August and have a tight preparation when December comes, the month of SCUAA event.
BulSU is not a state university anymore in terms of being a successful one, after the Engineering conquered the top spot on the licensure examinations and the Gold Gears being number one every SCUAA, it only proves that the university has something to say to the top universities in Manila.
Being a successful university does not depend on the name itself nor the percentage of the students who are enrolled there, it is on how they deal with the challenges and how they make their own way to prove to the whole wide world that they are not just a university.
Maybe we are just a State University by name, but still we act like one of the top universities in the country.
BulSU showed that it produced students that manifest excellence. Having the top one, five and the top ten in the ME examinations is one of the clear signs that Bulsu is having a great effort to enhance their curriculum and show the other universities that we are having a great improvement academically.
...
In spite of being competitive enough, the limelight has always been given to others. But this time, it is ours. With BulSU living on its legacy to produce quality individuals, who says that forever we will only be second best?
We may not be the best but we can be better than the best. Undoubtedly, we are not the underdog anymore.
